Emma obtained her PhD in Virology 2023 in the laboratory of Dr. Raphael Gaudin. Her doctoral research focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying viral infections of the central nervous system, from neuroinvasion to neuronal disorders. During this time, she enjoyed working with a variety of viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, Zika, WNV, and HCV, using innovative human models such as cerebral organoids and post-mortem tissues.
In 2025, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Claire Wyart as a postdoctoral researcher at ICM, where she explored the fascinating world of zebrafish. She investigated how ciliated sensory neurons in the spinal cord detect pathogens and play a central role in morphogenesis.
At the beginning of 2026, Emma joined the Deleidi Lab as a postdoctoral fellow to investigate how respiratory viruses (Influenza and SARS-CoV-2) contribute to the development of Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. She will use single-cell and spatial transcriptomic approaches in iPSC-derived neuronal models to decipher the long-term impact of viral exposure on neuronal and glial cells function
